HISTORY
Yintab group of schools started as Yintab Nursery and Primary school, Shogunle, Lagos, on 8th January, 1990. The school was founded Babafemi Adesina Badejo and Adejumoke Badejo. Both of the founders were involved in teaching at different levels of education in Nigeria at that time. They saw the downward trend in the standard of education in Nigeria and the inadequacy of facilities for many children, especially from the depressed areas of Lagos. They also sensed that a school plays a significant role in the development of a child. A good and solid educational foundation will equip the child and give him/her needed opportunities for self-improvement. They decided to make a difference by establishing a fee paying school.
At the inception of the school, two trained teachers were employed and admissions were given to twelve pupils. The first school at Shogunle was situated on a plot of land at 7 Alhaji Ajani Street, Shogunle, Lagos. The premises was formerly a bungalow with 8 classrooms. As the population grew, the building was redesigned into a two-story structure. Presently there are 16 classrooms housing 220 children. The students have been sitting for the national common entrance examination as well as the Lagos state common entrance examination. The results have always been favourable and they have been gaining admissions into the best secondary schools in the country.
The school applied to the Lagos State Government for allocation of school land. A larger piece of land in Owutu, Ikorodu Lagos was granted. Yintab Nursery and primary school, Owutu started giving admissions to students in January 1998. Presently, there are 172 children in this second school. The teaching and non-teaching staff are 21. A new two-storey structure that started in May 2001 has been completed to provide many classrooms for the Nursery/Primary school kids.
Further developments on the premises saw the beginning of the Junior Secondary School in September 2002. The secondary school has since been approved by the Lagos State Government as well as the two examination bodies in the country, i.e., the West African Examination Council and the Nigerian Examination Council. A major expansion of infratstructures has seen the building of standard laboratories and the starting of a major building that will accommodate many needs of secondary school children.
PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of Yintab group of schools is based on the idea of aiding every child learn in a planned educational environment set out to help young children reach their full spiritual and worldly potentials. These assist them to develop their own unique personalities and they will a strong sense of self worth. The schools are set up to provide education for the total being of the individual child, i.e., the social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, moral, and physical development of the child. By this we shall be able to turn the best out of every child. This is also catered for through positive motivation and guidance from the teachers. Yintab as a group of schools care for the pupils as individuals their academic progress, welfare, happiness, and conduct are of paramount importance. The happy, purposeful atmosphere is a key feature of the school which is recognized by visitors as soon as they visit the schools.
All the teaching staff at Yintab are fully qualified to teach the appropriate classes. Their qualification range from Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) trained for the younger children up to Bachelors Honours degree. The headmistresses of the schools are degree holders in Guidance and Counseling. All our staff are trained and experienced. The proprietress of the school is an experienced teacher with an honours degree in (child development) and Masters degree (Guidance and Counselling).
All the children of the schools are Nigerians. The children are being encouraged to put a lot of effort into their academic work and to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. As they progress through the school they are given ever-increasing opportunities to take on responsibilities such as becoming a primary monitor or a school prefect so that they can leave Yintab to go out into the world as responsible ambassadors.
The teachers are responsible for the general conduct and care of their classes. High standard of conduct is insisted upon and maintained. There is mutual respect between the teaching staff and students. Problems of discipline are few when they occur are well handled. Before problems get out of hand, parents are contacted.
