Historical Ascendancy

Yintab Private Academy started as Yintab Nursery and Primary school, Shogunle, Lagos, on 8th January, 1990. The school was founded by Babafemi Adesina Badejo and Adejumoke Badejo. Both founders were involved in teaching at different levels of education in Nigeria at that time. They saw the downward trend in the standard of education in Nigeria and the inadequacy of facilities for many children, especially from the depressed areas of Lagos. They also sensed that a school plays a significant role in the development of a child. A good and solid educational foundation will equip the child and give him/her the needed opportunities for self-improvement. They decided to make a difference by establishing a fee paying school.

At the inception of the school, two trained teachers were employed and admissions were given to twelve pupils. The first school at Shogunle was situated on a plot of land at 7 Alhaji Ajani Street, Shogunle, Lagos. The school plant then, comprised of a bungalow with 8 classrooms. As the population grew, the building was redesigned into a two-story structure housing 16 classrooms and offices. The school has since expanded in 1998, to a larger property at Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos, with many modern structures and facilities to meet the needs of a 21st century child.

Further developments on the premises beyond the initial crèche, nursery and primary education in a two-storey building saw the beginning of the Junior Secondary School in September 2002. The secondary school has since been approved by the Lagos State Government as well as the two examination bodies in the country, i.e., The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO). A major expansion on infrastructures has seen the building of standard laboratories and another three-storey building which accommodates the library, ICT suite, Home Economics laboratory, Music Room, Art Studio, Offices and Boys’ Hostel. A two-storey building houses the Girls’ Hostel.

In further pursuit of the vision of the founders, a major reengineering of the processes of the school commenced in March 2010, resulted in the birth of a stronger brand called YINTAB PRIVATE ACADEMY (YPA) with the introduction of the British Curriculum at both the Primary and Secondary levels culminating in the IGCSE. The need to develop individuals who are capable, productive and able to make contributions to the society has resulted in the introduction of an Afterschool programme that helps students to discover their innate talents, build self confidence and develop Emotional Intelligence.

The new brand was unveiled on 12th May 2011.
